Sources & method

A monitoring tool is only as good as the clarity of its data. Here is where each piece of information displayed in XAU TERMINAL comes from, and its limits.

News

The terminal shows the headline, a short excerpt when the publisher includes it in its feed, the time and a link to the original article, which remains the only complete reference. We do not reproduce articles. The feeds used are the public RSS feeds of:

  • ForexLive
  • Investing.com
  • MarketWatch
  • CNBC
  • Yahoo Finance
  • Banque centrale européenne
  • OilPrice.com
  • BBC News
  • Al Jazeera
  • Sky News

Posts from public figures relayed by public archives are added and labelled as such. News is ranked by a set of keyword rules according to its potential impact on gold. This ranking is automatic and can be wrong: it is not an editorial judgement.

Headlines are automatically translated into French in French mode; the original is always available. Machine translation may contain errors.

Economic calendar

Releases (date, forecast, previous, published value) come from an economic calendar aggregator. US releases of medium or high impact are kept and, for the euro area, China, the UK and Japan, only high-impact ones. The “impact reading” compares the published value with the forecast using fixed rules (for example: inflation above expectations is generally read as supportive for the dollar and a headwind for gold). It is an indicative reading, not a price forecast: the market may react the opposite way.

Macro data

Fed target range: Federal Reserve Board. Rates and breakeven inflation: FRED (Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis). Fund positioning: CFTC, Commitments of Traders report, published weekly with a lag. The geopolitical risk index is computed from the news volume of the last 24 hours: it is a media-attention indicator, not a forecast.

Quotes and charts

Charts and quotes (gold, silver, dollar, currencies, oil, indices) are displayed by TradingView widgets. US Treasury yields (3-month, 5, 10 and 30-year), T-Note futures and the VIX come from Yahoo Finance (CBOE indices and CBOT contracts); real yields and breakevens from FRED (daily). These quotes are indicative, may be slightly delayed and may differ from your broker's prices (spreads, price source). Do not use them to execute an order.

Live video

Video streams come from the official channels, embedded through their player. Availability and content are up to them.
